How long has Tree Town been in business?
Tree Town is a state-licensed, non-denominational preschool that has nurtured long lasting relationships with young children and their families since 1968.
Is the preschool licensed?
Yes, we are licensed by the Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) Of Illinois. Also, we follow the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s (NAEYC) guidelines for the education of young children.
Can I bring my child in for a pre-enrollment visit?
Yes, visits are welcomed and encouraged. Call the office to set up an appointment.
What is the adult child ratio? We are pleased to offer ratios that exceed state standards. We generally have a ratio of 1:6 (one adult to six children). Our two year old program has a ratio of of 1:3 (one adult to three children).
What if my child is sick on the day I am scheduled to be the parent helper?
You can always swap with another parent from your class or contact the designated emergency helper who can fill in for you. We ask that for this convenience, you pay the emergency helper $20.
Do children have to be potty trained?
Not for our two year old program. Children need to be toilet trained before starting in the three and four year old programs. These classrooms do not have a DCFS approved changing station. A changing station is located in the two's room.
What exactly constitutes a “cooperative”? Our parents are very involved with the school. Parents have the option of helping in the classroom as parent aides, and serve on committees. The Board of Directors is comprised of parents, and oversee the financial and operational functions of the school.
What if I can’t help in the class because of job or other conflicts? We offer parents the option of not parent aiding. This is a great choice for parents that work or have younger children in the home.
Are parents welcome to visit and interact with staff? Yes! We have an open door policy! We pride ourselves on strong parent communication and support. Parents are informed at pick up of any developments during the school day and we regularly email or phone parents to discuss development. We offer formal parent-teacher conferences twice during the year, and have a monthly newsletter detailing all school activities. We also provide regular email communication of upcoming events.
Do you have field trips? Yes, only for our three and four year old classes. We have 2 to 3 trips a year. We schedule trips that are reflective of the curriculum in the class. For example, we visit the local fire house, Fullersburg Woods during maple syrup time, and the Triton College Space Museum.
What are the teacher’s credentials and training? All of our teachers are certified and most have master's degrees in a relevant field, such as early childhood development, reading or elementary education.
What about safety? What measures do you take to keep children safe?
Our doors are locked at all times except for arrival and pick-up. Parents that aide in the class go under the same background checks as the teachers in the class. Children are signed out at the end of the class, and regular inspections of equipment and materials are conducted.
What about snacks? Tree Town is an Allergy Aware Zone. Peanut products and nuts of any kind are not served. We also do not serve grapes or popcorn since they are considered a choking hazard for this age group.
