Tree Town Newsletter – Sept/Oct. 2009

Welcome to our first edition of the Tree Town Newsletter.  We hope you are getting settled into a routine and enjoying your class.  Our newsletter is e-mailed once per month and posted on your class bulletin board.  It gives you an idea of what’s going on at school, things to talk about with your child, and future events and dates to plan for.

Curriculum

Our staff and students are getting into the school routine.  We will be talking about many topics and concepts over the next few weeks.  Those subjects include:  Nursery Rhymes, Shapes, Autumn, Apples, Pumpkins, Real and Pretend.

Class Get-Together (For the Parents!)

Participation chairperson for each class will be arranging a time for their parents to get together.  This is a social opportunity for parents to become better acquainted, instead of only at drop-off and pick-up times.

Learning Corner

Our 3’s and 4’s classes will be talking a great deal about the changes that occur during the fall.  Science, Math and Language Arts are incorporated in this unit; as they are with all our units.  During our fall walk, 3’s and 4’s will talk about the changes they see in nature (leaves changing, birds flying south, squirrels storing food, etc).  After our walk, the students will count, examine and sort the leaves, acorns and other treasures they gathered.  Our 4’s will write sentences to go along with pictures their teacher took during this experience.

School Pictures

Individual and class pictures will be taken on Tuesday, October 20th and Wednesday October 21st.  Pictures will be taken on a pre-pay basis with satisfaction guaranteed through a money back refund.  If you wish to have your child individually photographed, we must have the picture envelope returned before the picture can be taken.  Candy Lezak, an alumni parent, is once again taking our pictures.  If you would like to have pictures taken with your other children, Candy will have appointments available for that purpose.  Tree Town gets 10% of every picture order.

Directory

Revised class lists and committee lists will be included in our phone directory, which will be printed soon.

Sally Foster Orders

Our Sally Foster Sales runs from Sept. 14th – Sept. 28th.  Delivery will be October 19th.  Online purchases are available for out of town orders.  Our number for online orders is 58364.

Door Locking

We lock the doors by 9:00 AM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  The 2’s class locks the doors between 9:15 AM on Wednesday.  You may enter through the church office after doors are locked.  We unlock the doors approximately 5-10 minutes before the end of class.

Class Bulletin Board

Please remember to sign your child out and any children in your car pool at the attendance sheet on your class bulletin board.  Please note the day’s activities are posted there, too along with any special information pertaining to your class.  You will also find the helper schedule posted.

Snacks

Our snack each day must include one carbohydrate (ie cracker, bread, etc.) and one fresh fruit or vegetable.  Please remember all our snacks must be pre-packaged products.  All fresh fruit and vegetables must be washed and prepared at Tree Town.  Tree Town is an Allergy Aware Zone.  We cannot allow any peanut products.  There are children here with severe peanut allergies.  We also cannot have grapes or popcorn; since they are choking hazards.  If you have questions about snack or need snack ideas, please let your teacher know.

Change of Clothes

Accidents happen.  Please provide your child with a change of clothes in his/her backpack.  Please put the clothing in a large zip-lock bag so it is easy for us to grab.

Emergency Parent Helpers

There is an Emergency Parent Helper for each class.  These parents have agreed to be available in an emergency situation when a switch is unable to be made.  The fee for the substitute is $20.  The originally scheduled helper is still responsible for snack or water that day.

Field Trips

We have several fun and educational Field Trips planned through out the year.  Parents are responsible to either transport their child or make their own arrangements for someone else to chaperone and transport their child.  Our 4 year old classes will be taking their first field trip October 9th to Lakeview Nature Center.  Permission slips will be e-mailed to you in the coming week.

Halloween

Our 3 and 4 year olds will have a chance to wear their costume to Tree Town on Thursday, October 29th and Friday, October 30th. We will have a piñata with some fun Halloween Games.  Parents are welcome to stay during the first half hour to take pictures and see everyone show their costume and tell all about it.

Separation

If your child cries during the first few weeks of school, don’t be concerned, this is normal.  Children experience anxiety during new situations.  Once children get adjusted to their routine, it will subside.  It helps to have a good-bye ritual for both you and your child.  You can read a book together, say a silly good-bye rhyme or just wash hands together.  You and your child will know it is time for you to go and for them to start school.  If you have any concerns, please talk to your teacher.

Lunch Bunch

Lunch Bunch is a special “perk” for our 4 year olds.  They can bring their own lunch from home (no peanut butter sandwiches, please!) and eat with their friends and teachers.  Our first Lunch Bunch will be Friday, October 16th.
